Goegap Nature Reserve

The Goegap Nature Reserve, with its granite peaks and sandy plains, are dominated by Carolusberg. The highest point in the area. Goegap’s wildflower garden contains an enormous collection of succulents endemic to the area. A visit to the Goegap Nature Reserve will make a lasting impression with the spectacular annual display of wildflowers in spring.

You can find some of the most extraordinary floral species in reserve. Goegap, as the locals refer to it,  boasts a recorded 45 mammalian species, including springbok, gemsbok and the endangered Hartman’s Zebra. Aardwolf is one of the endangered species that you can also find in reserve.  Bird lovers will enjoy the more than 92 recorded South African bird species in reserve. The more popular sightings include ostriches, black eagles and spotted thick-knee and ground woodpeckers.

The Goegap Nature Reserve lies 15km southeast of Springbok. You will find typical Namaqua vegetation in reserve.  You can visit the Hester Malan Wild Flower Garden and discover the large variety of indigenous succulents.

The nature reserve is perfect for morning, day or afternoon outings. It is suited for those travellers that enjoy discovering new areas and are overnighting in Springbok. It is also a great introduction to the Namaqualand Fauna and Flora. You are welcome to relax and camp overnight in reserve.
